RE: portable air compressor

I bought the Superflow MV-50. Really like it and it seems to do everything that I need it for. The only downfall with it is you are limited on the things you can do with it because of the way it comes from the factory. I drilled and tapped out the manifold to accept 1/4-20 thread fittings and added a pit cock (ballvalve) to it so it wouldn't dead head the pump when it is turned on. It works great for airing up tires and comes with some other adaptors for inflating basketballs, etc.

Looking for info.

Just wanted to know if anyone has been to Wilson Island State Recreation Area in Missouri Valley, IA. We are going to the Omaha zoo over father's day weekend and wanted to know what people had thought of it. Is there a major concern on the river level at this park?

Omaha Zoo

My wife and I are planning on pulling our 5er to Omaha,NE on fathers day weekend to take the kids to the zoo. We were wondering if anyone would have a good suggestion on campgrounds in the area to stay at with the kids, DD 6, DS 5. We would be coming from east of Omaha. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

RE: Smell?

Thanks for all of the input. I just went out and opened it up for the first time since I pulled it home in early January and found there to be know smell or burning eyes. Might have a little to do with the weather?(34 degrees and snowing) I think for the most part the problem is probably non-existent.

Smell?

My wife and I just bought a new Rockwood 5th wheel. We had a friend tell us to watch out for the smell on the inside (could possibly make you cough and gag). I am not sure what smell they are talking about, but I do remember when we were shopping around for new campers our eyes would burn after being inside of the campers for a little bit. The sales reps had always told us it was formaldehyde. I think this may be the smell our friends were talking about? Just curious, what is it (formaldehyde), and why is that smell in the new campers?

Campgrounds

I have just purchased a new 5er and wanted opinions on some of the best campgrounds in Iowa in general. Also what about kid friendly (orientated) campgrounds? I am from the Waterloo area.

Water Pressure?

A couple questions. Does anyone know on average what the water pressure is at RV parks coming out of their hook-up spigot? I was wondering when using an external filtration canister(s) if it is at a high enough pressure coming out of the spigot would you be able to run the maximum allowable pressure for your filter canisters and then meter it down right before it enters your rv using a regulator so you don't damage your rv's plumbing system. Example: Park spigot water pressure 100psi, then running thru a single, dual, or triple canister filtration set-up, maybe pressure would drop to 85psi (assuming the filters are new, and pressure would decrease as filters get clogged), finally regulating it down to what your rv manufacturer recommends as max pressure. Now obviously pressure is one thing and flow is another. You would have to accommodate your outside set-up with correct size plumbing, hoses, and piping to achieve a maximum amount of water flow. Does anyone think something like this would work assuming the park pressure is high enough? I have not even used my 5er yet (just bought it brand new) and would like to be able to filter out some of the containments from the get go(sand, dirt, etc.).

Changing a tire

Just wanted to see what everyone was carrying in the event of a flat tire? Ramps, jacks, tire iron, electric impact, etc?

Ice Cream Ball

Just wondering if anyone had one of those plastic balls you put ice, rock salt, etc, in and kick it around to make ice cream? We bought one for the kids to try out when we start camping (hopefully it will wear the kids out a little bit so we are able to get them to bed). Also I have never used one, and was just wondering if they actually work.

RE: Leveling Boards

I just made some leveling boards/ramps today. Chose to use 2x10's that were about eight inches longer than the tire span. Then made another set that are about four inches shorter than the first that way they act like ramps to help when driving up on. Also made a set out of 1x10's that are a little shorter than the second set. This should give a pretty good variety in leveling. I also made jack stand platforms for under the front jacks and rear stabilizers. I added flexible side handles and end handles on the leveling boards to allow for ease of use when carrying them and pulling them out of storage. As well all of the leveling boards are interchangeable and can lock together so they don't pop up and move around when driving up on them. Haven't had a chance to use them yet, but they look good and hopefully they work well.

Hubodometers?

Is it worth the money to purchase a hubodometer for your fifth wheel?

Transfer Switch Box?

Just bought a Hughes autoformer and was wondering what and where the transfer switch box is? Hughes says to wire into it. I have done some industrial wiring in the past but some of this stuff in these RV's is new to me. Just trying to soak it all in. Also does the autoformer have to be "hardwired" in or can I install a series of plugs so it can all be removable?

Leveling Boards

Wanted opionions on what to carry to level my fifth wheel. (Rockwood 8281ss). 2x6's, 2x8's, 2x10's? Pressure treated?

Is this practical?

I have a Rockwood 8281ss 5er and was walking past it today when something caught my eye. I noticed that directly above where the black and grey water discharge at. There was a capped, threaded fitting (for a wash out hose I assume) that said sewer tank flusher. It also said (must have discharge caps off when using this). Now I am assuming that this would be used to wash out the black holding tank? If this is the case would it be practical to expect that this would be capable of "cleaning" my waste tank or would I need to purchase some sort of other method to clean the tank out?....(swivel stick, hydroflush, tornado, etc.)

Problem or not?

I have a 2008 Rockwood fifth wheel with a 5th Airborne pin box coupler, and a 12K SuperGlide. The lady I spoke with at PullRite told me my setup weighs 345lbs. My question is would I be creating a problem for myself if I were to just use the jacks on my fifth wheel to lift the hitch out of my truck then leave it attached to the fifth wheel outside when not in need of it? I live in Iowa and it could get exposed to a lot of different elements.

Grease

I have a 12K SuperGlide and 5th Airborne pin box coupler with a universal capture plate. Do I have to grease the hitch or king pin, or get a lube plate?

Top of the Line?

Which brand of fifth wheel is considered to be the best? -Quality -Features -Durability -Floorplans -Price

Does anyone have experience wiring in a surge protector or autoformer? Where is a good place for them? Any advice? Rockwood 8281SS
